Button Initial in a Frame

I saw this on Pinterest and have made a few. They’re quite simple to make but look very effective and make a nice gift. This is a quick how-to for a button initial in a frame.

I use the ‘Ribba’ frame from Ikea, which is a white, deep, 9x9inch square frame. You need a frame with depth so that the buttons don’t get squashed up against the glass. An alternative would be to use a normal frame and leave the glass out.

Measure and cut a piece of white card using the paper from the frame as a guide.

Cut out your chosen letter using a die cutting machine if you have one. Otherwise, print out your letter onto card using Word on your computer and cut it out by hand. Make it around 6 inches tall.
Stick the letter to the white card with double sided tape or glue.
Tip: Cut out two or three letters out and layer them on top of your card. This will stop your card from warping if you use too much glue.

Start putting your buttons down on top of the letter. When you’re happy with the arrangement, glue the buttons down using a wet glue like Uhu or Bostick or Anita’s Tacky Glue (PVA), preferably with a small nozzle. Overlap some of the buttons to add depth to your letter.

Repeat until you have filled the letter. Put some small gems and pearls into the spaces left by the buttons.

When dry, place it in the frame. And there you have it, a lovely gift for a new baby, Christening, birthday etc.

Instead of just using buttons, you can fill your letter with gens and pearls. It’s more time consuming because of the small pieces but looks well.

I got various gems in Inspiring Ideas in Blanchardstown. I got half pearls from the eBay seller go4beauty.

Back to School card

It’s that time of year again!  Back to school!

This card is for my friend’s daughter who is starting ‘big school’ on Monday.  The image is from Sassy Cheryl and is coloured with Promarkers.  I cut the scalloped oval and blackboard with with my Cricut (Craft Room Basics).  I attempted a bit of faux stitching with a needle and white gel pen.  I’m not sure if it was a success or not!

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Pretty Papers

I have two birthday cards here for a little girl called Emer.  This first one is an easel card and it has an image from Sassy Cheryl, coloured with Promarkers.  I had these papers in my stash for a few months and didn’t want to use them because they were too nice!  But Jackie set the challenge for Cheryl as ‘Pretty Papers’ so I had to use them up.  🙂  I’ve embellished the image with the usual glossy accents and stickles, and added some card candi (dots!) on the base of the card.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Sassy Cheryl’s challenge – Pretty Papers
I Love Promarkers – Dots and Stripes

This next card has a freebie image from Saturated Canary, coloured with Promarkers.  The backing paper is a digi I bought from Creative Qube on etsy.  I cut the letters with my Cricut but they didn’t come out properly and I didn’t have time to change them :-/  Again, I’ve added some glossy accents and stickles to the image, and a little butterfly and ladybird to add to the ‘outdoor’ theme.  I also punched a heart border using an X-cut punch.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Saturated Canary challenge 23 – Great Outdoors

Creative Inspirations – In the Garden

Dream Valley Challenges – Die Cuts & Punches

Purple cupcakes & a card

I made this card for a 21st Birthday using a Freebie image by Saturated Canary.  I coloured the image with the following Promarkers:

  • Cool Grey 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & Black
  • Lavender, Lilac & Amethyst
  • Dusky Pink & Ivory for the skin

I embellished ith with ribbon, card candi, glossy accents, stickles and die cuts from the Cricut Cartridge Ashlyn’s Alphabet.

I am entering this card into the Saturated Canary Challenge Black, White & one other

This luck girl also got half a dozen cupcakes to go with her card.  This is my second attempt at using Marshmallow Fondant and my tappits letter/number stencils.  Making marshmallow fondant seems to be easier than making any other type of material for decorating cakes such as flower paste or gum paste.  I find it works well for cutting.  I also used a butterfly cutter and embossing sheets that came free with a Cake Decorating Magazine.

Thanks for stopping by.  I’d love it if you could leave a comment.

Circles & Bling

While looking for some free digi stamps, I came across a fab image and challenge at Saturated Canary.  I coloured the image to match the backing paper using my Promarkers.  The pink combination is pale pink, baby pink and antique pink.  The green is meadow green, apple and grass.  I added a 3D effect to the background by raising some cut-out circles with foam pads and glossy accents.  The theme for the Saturated Canary Challenge is ‘Bling it On‘, so I made sure to add plenty of gems and stickles glitter.

I Love Promarkers – Challenge 125 – Circles

Another ‘Anything Goes’ challenge card

The image on this card is from Mo Manning.  The cute little boy driving his car reminds me of my two boys, who both love cars!  The layout is from a sketch from Passion for Promarkers.  I also used it for another card in my previous blog post.  You can’t really see it in the photo, but I used glossy accents  on the windscreen, bumper and headlights.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Mo’s Challenge #142 – Anything Goes

Passion for Promarkers #156 – Sketch
